Ski-Doo snowmobiles are one of the most popular brands on the market. They are a brand owned by Bombardier Recreational Products, Inc. Bombardier is a leader in the snowmobile industry. Ski-Doo makes mobiles to fit any shopper—including the intuitive shopper for kids snowmobiles.

Out of the four major snowmobile manufacturers in the industry, three produce lines geared toward youths. Each line is rather similar, and purchasing preferences often boil down to brand name and features. All youth sleds include the following features:

  • Basic single cylinder motors
  • Are air-cooled
  • 4-stoke
  • Efficiency allowing them to run a while on only a couple quarter of gasoline.

Safety features are a primary concern of parents. Kids snowmobiles generally offer an ability for the speed to be limited, and a tether strap will immediate shut the sled down if the child falls off. Youth sleds are simple to learn and operate, making them an ideal introduction to the sport of riding.

As of 2011 the top two mini-sled brands dominating the market were the Arctic Cat’s Sno Pro 120 and Polaris’ 120 Assault. Ski-Doo was gearing up to produce the Mini Z snowmobile, but discontinued their plans in 2011 due to a marked drop in demand for youth sleds.

As we heard into 2012 Ski-Doo has not given any indication that production plans for the Mini Z will resume. The Arctic Cat’s Sno Pro 120 is the leading youth sled on the market today.

A 120cc four-stroke engine powers the mobile. It is fuel efficient and boasts a single cylinder fan-cooled engine that can be controlled up to a top speed of 8mph. A removable key feature prevents a runaway snowmobile.

It has front and rear bumpers, a headlight that constantly runs when the sled is running, a high-visibility orange safety flag for easy eye tracking, a rear storage compartment, and padded handlebar.

The Polaris 120 Assault sled is designed to offer a starter sport style. It resembles popular spot sleds and is quite comparable to the Sno Pro 120. The Polaris is designed to be outfitted with hand and thumb warmers, handlebar hooks, and other accessories including a fuel gauge. Both models are excellent choices in the category of kids snowmobiles.
